Having Trouble Calling Business, Premium, or Switchboard Numbers?
Can I call business, premium, or switchboard numbers with Rebtel?
Yes. You can make calls to business, premium, and switchboard numbers with Rebtel.
However, successful connections can depend on the destination carrier, network routing, and the telephone system used by the business or organization. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that every call will connect or remain stable.
What is a business number?
A business number is a telephone number assigned to a business, office, organization, or institution.
Examples include:
Company customer service numbers
Banks
Hospitals
Government agencies
Corporate offices
You can call business numbers with Rebtel, but the connection may depend on the destination network and the business's telephone system.
What is a premium number?
A premium number is a special-rate telephone number that may be used for paid services.
Examples include:
Information hotlines
Technical support services
Entertainment services
Voting services
Directory assistance
You can call premium numbers with Rebtel. However, availability and successful connection depend on the destination carrier and how the premium number is configured.
Additional charges may also apply depending on the destination.
What is a switchboard number?
A switchboard number is typically used by a business or organization to receive calls and then transfer callers to a specific department, person, or extension.
Examples include:
Corporate reception lines
Hotels
Government offices
Universities
Hospitals
Can I call a switchboard number with Rebtel?
Yes. Rebtel allows you to place calls to switchboard numbers.
However, we cannot guarantee that a call will successfully complete when the switchboard transfers you to another department or extension.
Why does my call disconnect when a switchboard transfers me?
When a switchboard redirects your call to another extension, the transfer may sometimes be interpreted as the original call ending.
As a result, your call may disconnect before reaching the intended department or extension.
This does not mean that switchboard numbers are unsupported. It is a technical limitation related to how the destination's telephone system handles the transfer.
Why can I reach the switchboard but not the extension?
If you can reach the main switchboard but the call disconnects when you're transferred, the issue may be related to the destination's internal telephone system.
Switchboards can handle transfers in different ways, and some transfer methods may interrupt the Rebtel call. Successful routing to an internal extension therefore cannot always be guaranteed.
What should I do if I can't call a business, premium, or switchboard number?
First, check how you're making the call.
If you're using Internet Calling through Wi-Fi or Mobile Data, try switching your Calling Setup to Phone Lines.
After changing the Calling Setup, wait approximately 5 minutes and try calling the number again.
If the call still doesn't work, contact Rebtel Support and let us know what happened.
What should I do if I'm already using Phone Lines?
If you're already calling using Phone Lines and the problem continues, contact Rebtel Support.
Please provide the exact telephone number you're trying to call. This will help us identify the type of destination and investigate whether the issue may be related to the destination's telephone configuration.
Why does Rebtel Support need the exact number I'm trying to call?
The exact destination number helps us determine whether you're calling a business, premium, or switchboard number.
Knowing the number type also helps us understand whether the problem could be related to the destination carrier, network routing, or the telephone system handling your call.
Are calls to switchboard numbers unsupported by Rebtel?
No. Switchboard numbers are not unsupported.
You can place calls to switchboard numbers with Rebtel. However, because switchboards may transfer calls internally between departments or extensions, successful routing and a stable connection cannot always be guaranteed.
Can Rebtel guarantee that my call will connect?
No. Although calls to business, premium, and switchboard numbers are supported, successful connections cannot always be guaranteed.
The result of the call may depend on factors outside Rebtel's control, including the destination carrier, network routing, premium service configuration, or the business's telephone system.
What information should I provide to Rebtel Support?
If you're having trouble calling a business, premium, or switchboard number, let us know:
The exact telephone number you're trying to call
Whether you're using Internet Calling or Phone Lines
What happens when you try to call
Whether the initial call connects
Whether the problem occurs after you're transferred to another department or extension
If you were using Internet Calling, also let us know what happened after switching to Phone Lines and trying the call again.
What can I do if the call still doesn't work?
If you've tried calling through Phone Lines and the problem continues, contact Rebtel Support with the exact destination number and details of what happened.
We'll review the available information and help determine whether the issue is related to your calling setup or the destination's network or telephone system.
